The Latin word ‘sativa’ means cultivated. This plant is used as green manure for its nitrogen-fixing qualities.

Flowers

Flowers, pink or purplish, are in loose heads, solitary or paired. The standard is much paler than the wings.

Leaves

Pinnate row of leaflets on either side of the stem. 3-8 pairs of oblong leaflets on either side of the stem, notched at the tip.

Fruits Seeds

Pod: hairy, 3-7 cm long.
