Description

Phlomoides’ means ‘phlomis-like’. In the first year the leaves form a basal rosette. In the second year the flower stalk appears, becoming densely packed with flowers.

Flowers

Flowers are yellow with 5 petals, 5 orange stamens; the upper 3 stamens have whitish-yellow hairy filaments.

Leaves

Elliptic oval leaf, Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Basal rosette: large, oval to long, wider in the middle, pointed.
Upper leaves: narrower, pointed, alternate on the stem, serrated, mid-green.

Fruits Seeds

Capsule: round.

Medical

Leaves, flowers and root: act as an expectorant, have a calming effect and were used to treat a dry cough.
