Description

In late winter the bare branches of the Field Elm are covered in crimson flowers. Against the bright blue Provençal sky it looks as if the tree is engulfed in a pink haze.

The young branches are often covered in cork-like ridges.

Flowers

Flowers have either short stalks or no stalks and grow in clusters. The male and female productive parts are contained within the same flower, the stigma (female part) is white, the male part has 4-6 red stamens.

Elliptic oval leaf. Oval, serrated, asymmetrical, pointed, 4-12 cm.

Fruits Seeds

Samara: green-winged, oval, notched.

Crushed leaves: to treat bruises and burns.
