Description

A slender, greyish or whitish, downy plant with white markings.

Flowers

The flower-head consists of tubular florets, pink or violet in colour, solitary on very long leafless stalks. The flower bracts are overlapping, each bract with a short spiny tip.

Leaves

Elliptic oval leaf, Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Basal leaves: oval to long, pointed, serrated and lobed, white markings, spiny margin.
Upper leaves: smaller.

Fruits Seeds

Achene: a cluster of 1-seeded fruit with feathery hair.
