Description

The plant spreads by creeping horizontal runners (stolons) and seed; sometimes found in large colonies.

Flowers

Flowers have narrow ray florets with prominent disk florets, on a scaly stalk (12 cm).

Leaves

Cordate heart-shaped. Broadly heart-shaped, shallowly lobed, toothed (10-18), hairy, on long stalks. Leaves appear after flowering.

Fruits Seeds

Achene: a cluster of 1-seeded fruits with feathery hair.

Medical

Leaves and flowers. ‘Tussi’ is the Latin word for cough; for centuries this plant provided a very important medicine to treat coughs.
