Description

A very common clover of grassy places. Often sown as a foraging crop. It is one of the few clovers that have a sprawling, rooting system up to 50 cm long. It roots at the nodes.

The leaves form the symbol known as the shamrock.

Flowers

On longish stalks, the flowers are white, often tinged pink or cream, with a roundish head. Each flower, 7-12 mm. Sepals are serrated, joined, sometimes with green veins.

Leaves

Trifoliate with three leaflets. Three leaflets, very rarely four, oval to egg-shaped, margins serrated, with white or dark markings at the base. When young, the veins on the leaves are translucent.

Fruits Seeds

Pod: a cluster of dry seed fruit, each fruit usually contains one or two seeds.
