Description

The word ‘incarnatum’ means blood red.

The plant prefers sandy or light soils on forest margins, fields and road sides.

It is used as a foraging crop for cattle and as a green manure. Very fast growing, with the result that weeds don’t get a chance to germinate. As with all clovers it fixes nitrogen in the soil.

Flowers

Tiny, vivid red flowers are arranged in a spike, each flower 10-13 mm.

Leaves

Trifoliate with three leaflets. Three oval leaflets on long stalks, hairy. The top of the leaves are either cut off or notched, 8-16 mm across.

Fruits Seeds

Pod: tiny pods containing one seed, inside the calyx.
