Description
A woody, sub-shrub with erect or spread out branches. When young the leaves are covered in white hairs, giving the plant a felt-like appearance.
The bracts are overlapping, each bract, 6 mm, is edged with hairs.
Flowers
flowerhead is cone-shaped often reddish, with densely-packed, tiny pink or purplish-pink flowers.
Leaves
Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass, Elliptic oval leaf. Narrow to oval, the longer leaves, 10 mm or more, within the leaf axil and smaller ones in addition. As the season progresses the longer leaves drop off. Leaf margins are flat.
Fruits Seeds
Nut: 4 small nuts, enclosed within the calyx.

A source of honey.

Essential oil: known as Spanish oregano oil, used in commercial food flavouring and male cosmetics.
