A hairy sub-shrub with a leafy robust stem.

It is native to the garrigue, maquis and rocky areas.

Flowers

Flowers appear in the upper part of the plant in the leaf axil. They are grouped in a spike, pale yellow, only the lower lip is visible. The calyx is 7-10 mm long with 5 teeth.

Leaves

Elliptic oval leaf, Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Oval to long, pointed, thickish, hairy, mid green, paler underneath with crenulated margins, 1-4 cm long, 1-2.5 cm wide.

Fruits Seeds

Nut: small seeds at the base of the flower.

Edible

The herb is used to flavour wines, bitters, liqueurs and used as a hop substitute.

Medical

Upper parts: were used to treat all kinds of rashes, and skin problems in general.
