Description
A strong smelling herb. Traditionally the leaves were strewn where animals were kept, against fleas, or near door openings to the outside against mice and ants.
The plant’s essential oil contains a substance called thujone, one of the ingredients in Absinthe. A herb that was much used previously but now comes with a warning.
Flowers
The button-like, golden-yellow flowers are arranged in flat topped clusters.
Leaves
Pinnatisect leaf is deeply lobed, almost to the central midrib. Deeply lobed almost to central midrib, serrated.
Fruits Seeds
Achene: a cluster of small, dry 1-seeded fruit.
Edible
In spring, in the area of Diest in Belgium, the young shoots of the Tansy are added to the pancake mix.
