Description

Perennial shrub found in damp woodland and roadsides in shade. Stems are erect or spreading.

The whole plant is toxic, in particular the unripe green berries.

Flowers

White, 5-petalled flowers in clusters with conspicuous yellow anthersupper fertile part of the stamen containing the pollen. The flower petals bend backwards with age.

Leaves

Elliptic oval leaf, Cordate heart-shaped. Oval to heart-shaped, variable, with or without lobes, some serrated, others not, with stalks, sometimes hairy, 4-5 cm.

Fruits Seeds

Berry: black, dull, 6-10 mm.
