Native to tropical and sub-tropical parts of South America. Although originally from warm climates, it can tolerate temperatures down to minus 10º C.

Flowers

Flowers are star-shaped, with striking yellow stamens, buds pale purple.

Leaves

Elliptic oval leaf, Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Oval to long, pointed, dark green, 3-6 cm long, 2-3 cm wide.
Semi-persistent depending on temperature.

Fruits Seeds

Berry: purple-tinged, 5mm in diameter.
