Description
The name Senecio is probably derived from the latin name for ‘old man’, senex, referring to its downy globed seed heads.
Flowers
The flowers hang in bunches from the top of the stems. The flowers have no ray florets, just disk florets which are almost hidden by bracts, the tips only are visible.
Leaves
Pinnatisect leaf is deeply lobed, almost to the central midrib. Lobed almost to central midrib, lower leaves short-stalked, upper leaves stalkless, smaller towards the top.
Fruits Seeds
Achene: a cluster of tiny seeds with white hairs.
Medical
In herbal medicine it was used to stimulate and regulate the menstrual cycle and lessen menstrual pain.
