Description

Grows in damp but well-drained soil, often found in large groups.

The name ‘saponaria’ comes from the Latin word for soap. Until the commercial production of soap in the 1800’s, the plant was widely used as a soap substitute.

Flowers fragrant, with 5 petals, growing in clusters, in various shades of pink.

Leaves

Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Long, narrowing towards the tip, opposite.
