Description

A tall Salvia with a strong smell.

Salvia sclarea has a long medicinal history. Today, it is grown for its essential oil, used in the perfumery industry.

Flowers

Flowers are in a mix of lilac, pink and white, the upper lip is darker in colour and strongly curved. The lilac or whitish bracts are very visible and larger than the calyces.

Leaves

Cordate heart-shaped, Deltate triangular leaf with stem on one side. Heart-shaped to triangular, toothed, hairy. Lower leaves long-stalked.

Fruits Seeds

Nut: 4 small nuts enclosed within the calyx.
