Description
A sub-shrub. Old stems are woody, much branched, young stems, jointed, succulent.
Grows in saline conditions, near the seashore or salt marshes.
Rich in potash.
Flowers
Flowers are bisexual, in groups of three along the cone-like flower spike.
Leaves
Succulent fleshy, water-retaining leaves, Scales leaves resemble green scales e.g. Cupressus, Juniperus. Opposite, scale-like, fused together around the stem.
Fruits Seeds
Nut: oval, enclosed within the structure of sepals and petals.
