Description

The branches used to be bound into bundles and sold to butchers for sweeping their blocks, hence the common name ‘Butcher’s Broom’.

Flowers

The pale green flowers, usually solitary, are borne centrally on the upper surface of the cladodes.

Leaves

Cladode flower grows from a leaf-like stem. A leaf-like stem, oval and spine-tipped.

Fruits Seeds

Berry: round, 12-15 mm. Poisonous.

Medical

Young shoots and roots: have anti-inflammatory properties, tone and reduce vascular permeability.
