A native to the region. It has a scrambling, trailing habit. The branches have few thorns, these are recurved.

Flowers

The flowers are borne in clusters of 3-7. The style in the centre of the rose is raised.

Leaves

Pinnate row of leaflets on either side of the stem. 5-7 pairs of oval to oblong, glossy leaflets on either side of the stem, serrated.

Fruits Seeds

Hip: containing numerous seeds, egg-shaped, red when ripe, 10 mm.

Edible

Hips: hairy seeds need to be removed. Makes an excellent jelly or syrup. A very good source of vitamin C.

Medical

Fruit: astringent, to treat diarrhoea.
