Description
The tough, square stems emerge from a creeping base.
Flowers
The flowers, violet blue or white, are on oblong heads; leaves are directly below the flower-head.

Ovate leaf is egg-shaped, wider at base, Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Egg-shaped to long, wider in the middle and pointed, opposite on the stem, serrated or not.

Nut: dry, does not split open when ripe, many seeds.

Leaves.
Medical
Whole plant: used to heal wounds. Made into an infusion it was used to treat sore throats, thrush and gum infections; also to treat diarrhoea.
