Description
Swollen, jointed stems. Damp habitats, irrigation ditches. Formerly known as Polygonum persicaria.
Flowers
flowerhead in a dense spike of tiny pink flowers, 4-5 cm long.
Leaves
Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Long, wider in the middle, pointed, dark blotch on leaf blade, alternate on the stem, without stalks.
Fruits Seeds
Drupe: a cluster of 1-seeded fruit, oval, black, 1.5-3 mm.
Edible
Leaves and shoots when young, as vegetable or salad.
