Description

A much-branched, delicate-looking plant native to the Mediterranean region. Grows in full sun on waste ground and in hedgerows. Family of Plumbago auriculata originally from South Africa, with its bright blue or white flowers growing in so many gardens on the Mediterranean coast.

Flowers violet or lilac-pink, 5-petalled on a narrow corolla tube, borne in branched racemes.

Leaves

Hastate spear-shaped leaf with horizontal lobes at base. Triangular with basal lobes, 5-8 cm.

Fruits Seeds

Capsule: 5 valves.

Medical

Roots: the excess of saliva produced by chewing the roots is said to help toothache.
