Full name Plantago maritima var. serpentina.

Grows mainly near the sea but does occur in higher altitudes.

Flowers

Greenish-brown flowers, borne in a narrow cylindrical spike, 3-7 cm, with yellow anthers.

Leaves

Succulent fleshy, water-retaining leaves. Basal rosette, linear, fleshy, rigid, 3-veined.

Fruits Seeds

Capsule: containing numerous small, oval seeds.

Edible

The leaves are eaten raw or cooked like samphire.
