Description
Oxtongues are very rough and hairy. The bracts of Picris echioides have bristly margins, the outer bracts are heart-shaped.
Flowers
The yellow flowers have ray florets, often striped with red on the outer florets.
Leaves
Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Long, pointed, with wavy margins, pimply. Upper leaves clasp the stems.
Fruits Seeds
Achene: a cluster of 1-seeded fruit with white hairy bristles.
