Description

Latifolia means ‘broad-leaved’. Phillyrea latifolia is very similar to Phillyrea angustifolia, both are evergreen shrubs. The names reflect the difference in their leaves, the leaves of Phillyrea latifolia being broader.

Grows in lightly wooded areas.

The small, white, 4-petalled flowers grow in bunches.

Elliptic oval leaf, Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Oval to long, pointed, entire or finely serrated, opposite on the stem with short hairy stalks.

Fruits Seeds

Drupe: outer fleshy parts surround a shell with a seed inside, blue-black, 6-8 mm.

Medical

Leaves: used locally in the form of a poultice to treat headaches, as a diuretic and to reduce fever.
