Description

During WW2 the leaves were used as a tobacco substitute. Grows in damp, generally shady positions, on river banks.

Flowers

The vanilla scented, pinkish-white flowers form a flower spike (25 cm). Each flower has disk and ray florets. Leaves and flowers have pinkish flushed stalks. Light green bracts.

Leaves

Cordate heart-shaped, Reniform kidney-shaped leaf. Heart to kidney-shaped, serrated, shiny above, slightly hairy beneath.

Fruits Seeds

Achene: a cluster of 1-seeded, yellowish-brown fruit.
