Description

A deciduous shrub. The shoots are in zigzag form with 2 spines, 1 curved, 1 straight, on the outside of each kink. The fruit is a disc with a wavy edge, conspicuous as it turns from green to yellow to brown from summer to winter.

One of the plants reputedly to have been placed on Christ’s head before the crucifixion.

The flowers are small, yellow, borne in lateral clusters.

Elliptic oval leaf. Oval, stalked, alternate on the stem with 3 veins.

Nut: small nut, dry and woody, inside a circular winged fruit.
