Description

A very common plant throughout the Mediterranean. A bulb with one short stem surrounded by fleshy leaves. A cut across the bulb reveals the layers or rings.

The name ‘Ornithogalum’ means ‘bird milk’ in Greek.

Flowers

The flowers are borne in pyramidal spikes. They are milky-white, 6 tepals with a green stripe on the reverse. The stamens have white filaments with yellow anthersupper fertile part of the stamen containing the pollen.

Leaves

Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. Blade, 4-6.
