A tuberous perennial with enlarged underground structures for storage of nutrients.

Flowers

Rarely more than 20 cm in height, flowers whitish or greenish-pink. The sepals are hooded with diverging pointed tips, often striped with green. The whitish lip, heavily spotted in the centre, has 3 lobes, the central lobe divided into 2 blunt lobes. Often the lobes are of a deeper lilac to red and also spotted. Spur curves downwards.

Leaves

Elliptic oval leaf, Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. A basal rosette of 3-4 leaves, oval to long, pointed.

Fruits Seeds

Capsule: numerous tiny seeds.
