Description
Previously under the name Ophrys bilunata. This species is a member of the Ophrys fusca group. Other members of this group, growing in our area are Ophrys foresteiri and Ophrys delforgei.
Ophrys marmorata is quite common and will grow in full sun or heavy shade, on all types of terrain, from dry scrub to lush grassland and pinewood.
A tuberous perennial with enlarged underground structures for storage of nutrients.
Flowers
The yellow border of the lip and the sinus (gap) between the two lobes distinguishes this flower from other Ophrys fusca .
Leaves
Elliptic oval leaf, Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Basal rosette: oval to long, wider in the middle, pointed, mid green.
Fruits Seeds
Capsule: numerous seeds.
