This was the first Narcissus to be cultivated. A bulb with one short stem surrounded by fleshy leaves or leaf bases. Cutting across the bulb reveals the layers or rings.

It has been cultivated for its essential oil, one of the most popular fragrances used in the perfume industry. Its scent is so powerful that it can cause headaches and vomiting if a large quantity of flowers are kept in a room.

Flowers

The flowers have pure white tepals turned backwards, with a short, light yellow crown. The crown is toothed with a distinct reddish edge. Very fragrant.

Leaves

Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. Blade, straight, narrow, flat, bluish-green.

Fruits Seeds

Capsule: with 3 parts.
