Description

Lupins were planted around Chernobyl after the nuclear explosion to absorb the poisonous rays. They absorb excess pesticides and other soil contaminants.

Used as green manure through its ability to fix nitrogen and phosphate; can be used on exhausted fields to improve the soil. The pods are used as animal fodder.

Mainly on acid sandy soil, vineyards, field margins, garrigue.

Flowers

The mid-blue, tinged with purple flowers are positioned alternately at the top of the flower stalk. The standard and the wing petals are often dark veined.

Leaves

Digitate leaflets are finger-like. Finger-like, with 5-9 narrow leaflets, less than 4 cm long.

Fruits Seeds

Pod: brown or black with 4-6 seeds.
