Description
The name Lunaria means moon-shaped, which refers to the shape of the seed pods. The common name ‘Honesty’ dates back to the 16th century and possibly refers to the seed pods which are translucent, nothing to hide.
It takes 2 years to flower, in the first year the basal leaves appear. It grows in shade or dappled shade.
Over time the skin falls off the sillique releasing the seeds and revealing the central membrane which is white with a silvery sheen. The seed pods remain on the plant during winter.
Flowers
In spring, Lunaria annua bears terminal racemes of mostly violet, but sometimes white flowers.

Cordate heart-shaped. Heart-shaped, serrated, pointed, coarse, 15 cm.
Fruits Seeds
Silique: two fused carpels, disk-like, shiny, translucent, silvery-brown.
