Flowers

The flowerhead, made up of brown-silvery bracts, resembles a pine cone. The flowers are short and spiky on top of the cone, white or pink florets.

Leaves

Pinnatisect leaf is deeply lobed, almost to the central midrib. Lobes almost to central midrib, silver above, dull green beneath.
