Description

A variable, hairy plant.

Grassy habitats, woodland margins, hedgerows, olive groves, banks and roadsides.

Flowers

The flowers are pinkish purple, upper lip is hooded, the lower lip is whitish, heart-shaped with purple splashes.

Leaves

Elliptic oval leaf, Cordate heart-shaped. Triangular, coarsely serrated and pointed, often with a light patch in centre.

Fruits Seeds

Nut: enclosed within the calyx.

Edible

Leaves: gathered before flowering, too hairy for salads, best cooked.
