Description

An erect plant with attractive violet flowers.

Grows in hedgerows, grassy hillsides and pastures on dry, calcareous soils.

Flowers

The flowers are solitary, with outer florets longer than the central ones. Each calyx has 12-24 teeth.

Leaves

Pinnately lobed leaf with lobes both sides of a central midrib, Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass, Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Basal rosette: leaves deeply lobed. Upper: linear to long, pointed, not stalked, clasping the stem.

Fruits Seeds

Small: 1-seeded fruit, hairy.
