Description

This plant is native to the eastern Mediterranean and North Africa, introduced into France. A rhizomatous perennial.

The earliest flowering Iris in the region, blooming in late December and early January in some years.

Lightly shaded, rocky habitat.

Flowers

The fragrant flowers are lilac or purple with a central beard of yellow.

Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. Long, slender, evergreen leaves.
