Description
Hairless, branched perennial, straight stems with 2 raised edges. When the flowers are soaked in oil, the oil turns red.

Flowers
Flowers with numerous stamens. The petals are dotted with small black oil glands.
Leaves
Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass, Elliptic oval leaf. Linear to oval, opposite on the branches. The leaves held up to the light are covered in transparent dots, giving the leaves a ‘perforated’ appearance, hence the name H. perforatum.
Fruits Seeds
Capsule: small, numerous seeds.
Medical
Flowers: flowers steeped in oil for 3 weeks, used externally, reduces inflammation and promotes healing, very effective to treat sunburn. Dried flowers are used to treat mild depression.
