Description

Full name Hylotelephium telephium subsp. maximum. Quite rare, a perennial which dies down completely in winter, new shoots sprouting each year from existing buds. The roots are thick and tuberous. The stems are erect, flushed with pink, branched at the top. The stems and the leaves contain sufficient water for survival during the summer period.

Flowers

The flowers appear in autumn, in clusters, each individual flower has 5 petals and twice as many stamens.

Succulent fleshy, water-retaining leaves, Elliptic oval leaf. Fleshy, oval, serrated leaves, stalkless, flat.

Fruits Seeds

Follicle: dried up compartments of the ovary opening up to release brownish-maroon seeds.

Edible

Leaves: fleshy and crunchy.

Medical

Whole plant: juice was used to treat diarrhoea.
