A yellow dye is produced from the leaves.

Often found carpetting an area of light woodland.

Flowers

Numerous small purple flowers with a dark centre. At the beginning of the flowering cycle, the dark centre is not yet visible.

Leaves

Spatulate broad end of the leaf tapers to the point of connection with the plant stem, Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Basal leaves: broad end tapers to base.
Stem leaves: small, narrow, pointed.

Fruits Seeds

Achene: dry fruit inside the base of the flower.
