Description
Also known as Polygonum aubertii. Native to Asia (China, Russia, Kazakhstan).
In one year this plant can grow 3 m. As it grows it becomes quite heavy, needing solid support. It is a useful climber for unsightly fences and garden structures, though difficult to eradicate. It does not require a special type of soil, prospers in sun or half shade.
A nectar plant for bees.
Flowers
Flowers are arranged in stalked clusters, each cluster 15 cm long. Normally white to greenish-white, sometimes pale pink, becoming a deeper pink as the fruit is being developed.
Leaves
Elliptic oval leaf, Cordate heart-shaped. Oval to heart-shaped on stalks to 10 cm long.
Fruits Seeds
Drupe: a cluster of fleshy, 1-seeded fruit, shiny, black, 2 mm long.
