Grassy and rocky habitats, scrub and waste places often on calcareous soils.

The latex of all Euphorbias can cause skin rash.

Flowers

Cyathia: the umbels (9-18 rays) are rounded to kidney-shaped with greenish-yellow bracts. The bracts turn purple or red in summer.

Leaves

Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. Narrow, alternate and densely packed along the stems.
