Description
Much branched perennial.
Dry habitats, grassy or stony, coastal or inland.
Flowers
The tiny white flowers are hidden inside green bracts, together they form a whitish-greenish ball.
Leaves
Pinnatisect leaf is deeply lobed, almost to the central midrib. Lobed almost to central midrib, spiny, whitish-green, alternate on the stem.
Fruits Seeds
Schizocarp: splits in 2 parts when ripe.
Edible
Roots: were made into candied sweets or boiled and roasted as a vegetable.
Medical
Roots: an infusion was made from the roots to treat coughs, whooping coughs and urinary infections.
