Description

Epipactus orchids need mycorrhizal fungi to propagate. The fungi enter the rhizomes giving rise to offshoots from which new Epipactus orchids emerge. Varieties of Epipactus orchids are distinguishable by their leaves.

Epipactus distans grows on calcareous soils at higher altitudes. Greenish in appearance sometimes flushed with pink.

Flowers

The lateral sepals are spread out, the petals and central sepal form a hood. The white lip is jointed, cupped with a round to triangular tip.

Leaves

Elliptic oval leaf. Oval, short, pointed, folded horizontally, some distance between leaves.
