Description

Epipactus orchids need mycorrhizal fungi to propagate. The fungi enter the rhizomes giving rise to offshoots from which new Epipactus orchids emerge.

Varieties of Epipactus orchids are distinguishable by their leaves.

Epipactus atrorubens emits a vanilla scent in warm weather.

Flowers

The flowers are on short stalks on either side of the stem, deep black or reddish-purple with noticeable yellow stamens, no spurs. Petals and sepals are similar in shape. The labellum is lobed, pouch-like.

Leaves

Elliptic oval leaf, Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Oval, deeply ridged and veined. Upper leaves narrower, long, wider in the middle, pointed, 4 cm.
