Description

The Greek word ‘dianthus’ comes from ‘dios’ meaning ‘god’ and ‘anthos’ meaning flower. The calyx, 3 cm long, is surrounded at the base by 2-5 oval-shaped, pointed scales.

Grows in light woodland. Found infrequently, except in protected areas where it grows freely, amongst grasses, in sunny-shady spaces.

The flowers, solitary or in two’s, have pale to dark pink serrated petals.

Leaves

Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. Blade, greyish-bluish green.

Fruits Seeds

Capsule: splits open when ripe.
