Description

A tuberous perennial. The name ‘dactylos’ comes from Greek meaning ‘finger’ and ‘rhiza’ meaning root. The naming is very apt, the underground part of the stem has two webbed tubers each one divided into several lobes and tubercles, hence the ‘finger’ reference. The second Latin name ‘sambucina’ refers to the similarity of the scent of the flowers with those of the Sambucus nigra (Elder).

Grows above 500 m.

Leaves

Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Blade, long, wider in the middle, pointed, 6-12 cm long.

Capsule: seeds tiny, like dust.
