Description

The English name Houndstongue refers to the shape of the leaves, like a dog’s tongue. A softly hairy plant.

A variety of Cynoglossum with violet flowers is called, Cynoglossum creticum.

The flowers, borne on lax, floppy stalks are purplish-lilac with deep-blue or purple veins.

Leaves

Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Long, pointed, densely hairy, half-clasping the stem.

Nut: 19 small 5-8 mm with dense hooked spines or almost smooth.
