Description

An erect, greyish, branched biennial. The bracts have long, straw coloured spines, with shorter spines at the base of the bract.

Dry habitat.

Flowers

Small yellow ray florets, all of the same length.

Leaves

Pinnatisect leaf is deeply lobed, almost to the central midrib, Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Lower leaves: deeply lobed with lobes almost to central midrib, with stalks.
Upper leaves: long, wider in the middle and pointed.

Fruits Seeds

Achene: a cluster of small, 1-seeded fruit with tufts of hair on each seed.
