Flowers

The yellow disk florets at the end of the stalk are surrounded by thorny bracts.

Leaves

Pinnatisect leaf is deeply lobed, almost to the central midrib. Deeply lobed almost to central midrib. Each lobe, oblong, wider in the middle and pointed with spiny edges.

Achene: a cluster of small, 1-seeded fruit, each with feathery yellow hairs, 2.5 mm long.
