A greyish plant. Cultivated and waste ground, roadsides, field boundaries on calcareous or neutral soils.

Flowers

The green unopened flowers, becoming white in maturity, grow in tight clusters; in bud they resemble broccoli.

Leaves

Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Basal leaves: oblong, wider in the middle, pointed and serrated.
Upper leaves: clasp the stem.

Fruits Seeds

Silique: two fused carpels, kidney-shaped, inflated, 3-4.5 cm long.

Edible

Leaves and flowers: can be cooked in the same way as broccoli. Rich in Vitamins B, C, E and K.
